Objectives
To increase the number of learners with the appropriate aptitude who select a Technical or Commercial path.
In 1986, a visionary dream took shape: to create a technologically advanced school rivaling South Africa’s top traditional and public schools. The goal was to prepare students for the future and provide access to technical education, previously unavailable to black youth. Chief Mangosuthu Buthelezi and Dr. O.R. Dhlomo, then Minister of Education, enthusiastically supported the concept. However, government funding was scarce.
Undeterred, Mr. Arnold Zulman committed R2 million to bridge the gap, and the project gained momentum. With no suitable site available, Zulman and architect Hans Hellen persuaded the Umlazi Mayor and Town Council to repurpose their underutilized golf course. The Development Bank subsequently invested R1 billion in the project. Umlazi Comprehensive Technical High School opened its doors in 1991,
welcoming 185 grade 8 learners under the leadership of the esteemed Mr. Wilfred Lucky Luthuli. During his 29-year tenure, Luthuli proved to be an exceptional headmaster, instrumental in the school’s success.

Umlazi Comtech High School offers state-of-the-art facilities in a picturesque setting, continually upgraded to meet the highest standards. Our campus boasts exceptional sports fields, netball and basketball courts, and a long yard with a beautiful view. Strategically located near Mangosuthu University of Technology (M.U.T), we provide a unique learning environment. To ensure student safety, we’ve automated our gates and installed security cameras in key areas, allowing our security team to effectively patrol the grounds. We believe Umlazi Comtech is an excellent choice for parents seeking a well-rounded education for their children.

Boarding:
Umlazi Comprehensive Technical High School offers a comprehensive boarding program for learners, providing a safe and supportive residential environment within the school premises. Our internal boarding facilities can accommodate up to 600 learners, comprising 350 boys and 250 girls.
As a boarder, learners enjoy the convenience of on-site accommodation and meals, with meal costs included in the boarding fees. This allows learners to focus on their academic and personal growth, while enjoying a sense of community and belonging.
