Languages Departmental Head

Welcome to the Languages Department at Umlazi Comprehensive Technical High School (Comtech). A language is a means of communication. Impartation of knowledge in all subjects, happens using language. We can therefore safely say that languages form a firm foundation on which all other subjects are built. Mastery of language is therefore of paramount importance to all teachers and learners. Without the correct use of language, and language skills, there can be no fruitful teaching and learning.
Our school offers two languages, namely, isiZulu HL and English FAL. Our department is dedicated to empowering learners to become confident communicators, critical thinkers, and life-long learners. This is made possible by our schools’ professional, experienced, hardworking, meticulous, and innovative Languages Department teachers. Our department has a vibrant debating society, and also engages learners in various debating platforms and essay writing competitions. All achievements are rewarded.
Reading lies at the heart of the curriculum. In promoting a reading culture at Comtech, we, as the languages department, aspire to start an audio-visual reading room (a language laboratory) that will enable to develop their language skills. We believe that this endeavour will lead and expose our learners to greater heights and new experiences.
I look forward to starting this journey of exploring the world with our learners by using technology that the audio-visual reading room will offer.

Greetings colleagues, students, and members of the community. It is both an honour and a privilege to lead a team of dedicated and passionate educators as the Head of the Engineering, Information Technology Department at Umlazi Comprehensive Technical High School.
I am reminded of the vital role that technical education plays in shaping not only the future of our students but also the future of our society. In today’s rapidly evolving world, the demand for skilled professionals in technical fields has never been greater. Our department is dedicated to equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience necessary to thrive in these dynamic environments. We strive to create a learning atmosphere that fosters innovation, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities—qualities that are essential in any technical career.
Our curriculum is designed to be both rigorous and relevant, integrating the latest industry standards and technologies. We are committed to providing our students with opportunities to engage in real-world projects, internships, and collaborations with local businesses. This not only enhances their learning experience but also prepares them for the challenges they will face in their future careers. As educators, we have the responsibility to inspire and motivate our students. We must encourage them to explore their passions, embrace challenges, and develop a lifelong love for learning. I believe that every student has the potential to excel, and it is our duty to nurture that potential through personalized guidance and support. I would also like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to my dedicated colleagues.
